The 9th of May is a Victory Day in the Chechen history, but it is also a tragic day for the Chechen people. The Chechen President Akhmat-Hajji Kadyrov was assassinated in a bomb attack in Grozny at a Victory Day celebration on May 9, 2004. A deputy head of Rostechnadzor of Middle Caucasus Department, Shaikhi Khazuev, thinks that terrorists had carried out that attack for the purpose of splitting the Chechen people up.
Khazuev said:“The 9th of May is a tragic day for the Chechens. However, it is a Victory Day too because a lot of heroic feats done by the Chechen heroes during the Great Patriotic War are become known this day. The Chechen heroes’ memory will live on for ever. Old age tells! There were 500 veterans of the GPW in the Chechen Republic in 2005. Unfortunately, only 167 of them are alive today. The Chechen veterans should be an obvious and outstanding example for us and our rising generation. Our rising generation must be told about our veterans’ great heroic exploits. It must be done in memory of our heroes.” In turn,Tamara Kagirova, a chairman of ROO “A search for missing persons”, added: “Six years ago the Chechen President Akhmat-Hajji Kadyrov was assassinated in a bomb attack in Grozny at a Victory Day celebration devoted to those who died in the GPW. This event went down in the Chechen history as the tragic day. He was our greatest hope for the future. Akhmat-Hajji Kadyrov promised us that all guilty would be punished, and all guiltless would come back home. This person won and left us while being invincible.” According to a representative of the Chechen Republic Ministry for Foreign Affairs, National Policy, Press and Information, Maret Muskeeva, the 65th anniversary is a great holiday for the Chechen people because “we can prove that we are not terrorists and gangsters; we are warriors and defenders”. Our fathers and grandfathers had fought the fascists in the Second World War. For example, Khanpasha Nuradilov, a 19 years old boy, killed nearly one thousand fascists! The country has a lot of heroes and it must be proud of them! |
